Analysis of Gerontological Nursing Researches in Korea, 1999¢¦2004
Kim Chun-Gill

Abstract
Purpose: This study attempted to analyze the trends in various kinds of research and to suggest future directions for gerontological nursing research in Korea.

Method: A total of 246 articles published in Korea from 1999 to 2004 were analyzed in this study focusing on the design of the research, the theoretical framework, key words, and the influencing variables in the case of experimental and correlational studies.

Results: The most frequent research design used was quantitative design(76.8%). The majority of subjects were the elderly over 60 living at home. Only 10.6% of the investigators(n=246) identified a theory or conceptual model. Major concepts studied were mental and physical health. Among 46 experimental studies, the most frequent nursing interventions were rhythmic and exercise program. In 71 correlation studies, variables such as health promotion behavior, depression and family burden were found to correlate with nursing concepts.

Conclusion: The number of studies has increased since the year 2000 but there have been not many studies using meta-analysis, triangular method, polices and suggestions of practical alternatives. Thus it is necessary to carry out more research in these areas.
